Mae Prifysgol De Cymru yn falch o gael gwahodd ceisiadau ar gyfer 12 ysgoloriaeth PhD a ariennir yn llawn, oddi fewn i Gyfadran y Diwydiannau Creadigol (CDC).

CDC yw un o’r cyfadrannau mwyaf o’i bath yn y Deyrnas Unedig, ac mae ganddi berthnasau agos â’r diwydiannau creadigol yng Nghymru, y DU ac yn rhyngwladol. Wedi’i lleoli yng Nghaerdydd, ac yn ganolfan gyfryngol ffyniannus ar gyfer ffilm, teledu a’r celfyddydau, bydd y gyfadran yn agor adeilad Atrium 2 yn fuan iawn – adeilad a chanddo adnoddau heb eu hail ar gyfer addysgu yn y diwydiannau creadigol.

Lleolir ein hymchwil yn Sefydliad Ymchwil y Diwydiannau Creadigol a’i chanolfannau rhagoriaeth, sef:

Fframwaith Rhagoriaeth Ymchwil 2014, dyfarnwyd bod 65% o ymchwil y gyfadran yn uned asesu D35 Cerddoriaeth, Drama, Dawns a Chelfyddydau Perfformio (yn cynnwys y cyfryngau ac astudiaethau diwylliannol) a 75% o ymchwil uned asesu D34 Celf a Dylunio (fel rhan o gyflwyniad ar y cyd gyda WIRAD, Wales Institute of Art & Design) naill ai’n rhyngwladol ragorol (3*) neu’n arwain yn fyd-eang (4*).

Mae’r ysgoloriaethau hyn yn cynrychioli buddsoddiad sylweddol yn y genhedlaeth nesaf o ysgolheigion ac ymchwil yn y diwydiannau creadigol, ac yn ganolog i gynllunio’r Brifysgol ar gyfer yr ymarfer rhagoriaeth ymchwil nesaf.

Mae’r alwad hon ar agor i ysgolheigion a chanddynt ddiddordebau ymchwil yn y diwydiannau creadigol a chroesewir ymgeiswyr sy’n defnyddio ystod o fethodau a dulliau disgyblaethol (a rhyngddisgyblaethol). Fodd bynnag, rydym yn awyddus iawn i glywed oddi wrth bobl sy’n gweithio yn y meysydd canlynol:

  • Ffilm Ddogfen a Ffotograffiaeth (yn cynnwys prosiectau curadurol ac ymarfer fel ymchwil)
  • Drama (yn cynnwys drama radio a theledu, a dylunio llwyfan)
  • Cyfryngau a diwylliant mewn cenhedloedd bach
  • Perfformiad/Perfformio (yn cynnwys celfyddydau yn y gymuned; perfformiad a threftadaeth)
  • Cerddoriaeth Boblogaidd
  • Astudiaethau’r cyfryngau ac astudiaethau diwylliannol (yn cynnwys cynulleidfaoedd a ‘fandom’; rhywedd; diwylliant poblogaidd ac arswyd; polisi; ac astudiaethau lle)
  • Astudiaethau teledu

The University of South Wales is delighted to invite applications for 12 fully-funded PhD scholarships within the Faculty of Creative Industries (FCI).

FCI is one of the largest faculties of its kind in the UK and enjoys close relationships with the creative industries in Wales, the UK and internationally. Based in Cardiff, a fast-growing media hub for film, television and the arts, the faculty will shortly open its Atrium 2 building with state-of the art facilities for creative industries teaching.

Our research is housed in the Creative Industries Research Institute and its centres of excellence, namely:

In REF 2014, 65% of the faculty’s research in UoA D35 Music, Drama, Dance and Performing Arts (including media and cultural studies) and 75% of research in UoA D34 Art & Design (as part of the joint submission from WIRAD) were rated either internationally excellent (3*) or world-leading (4*). These scholarships represent a major investment in the next generation of creative industries scholars and research, and is integral to the University’s planning for the next REF exercise.

This call is open to all scholars with research interests in creative industries and we welcome applicants employing a range of methods and (inter)disciplinary approaches. However we are particularly keen to hear from people working in the following areas:

  • Documentary film and photography (including curatorial and practice as research projects)
  • Drama (including radio and television drama, and set design)
  • Media and culture in small nations
  • Performance (including community arts; performance and heritage)
  • Popular music
  • Media and cultural studies (including audiences & fandom; gender; popular culture and horror; policy; and place)
  • Television studies
