The George Ewart Evans Centre for Storytelling presents two days of provocations and presentations considering the role of the voice in storytelling practices.
The voice is at the heart of storytelling, whether that be the voice of the professional storyteller, the voice of community members and individuals or an attempt to capture the ‘authentic’ or ‘unheard’ voices in our society. Storytelling can be used to empower and to give voice to those narratives we need or want to hear. The Storytelling and the Voice symposium gives an opportunity to debate these questions and many more with a programme including a keynote lecture The Dualities and the Multiplicities of the Storytelling Voice: what we might take from Millais and Benjamin from Prof Mike Wilson (Falmouth University). Other confirmed presenters include Prof Frances Rapport ( Swansea University), Dr Jenny Kidd (Cardiff University), Lisa Heledd Jones (Storyworks), Dr Jenny Moon (Bournemouth University), Dr Jacqueline Harrett and Prof Chris Morris (University of South Wales). There will also be an evening of storytelling performances and music curated by Beyond the Border Wales International Storytelling Festival and including performances by Guto Dafis, Megan Lloyd, Michael Harvey and Pauline Down, Paola Balbi, Shonaleigh Cumbers and Simon Heywood.
All events take place at the ATRiuM, Cardiff School of Creative and Cultural Industries, Adam Street, Cardiff, CF24 2XF.
